In a world where the written word holds the power to transform lives, 1 Utama Shopping Centre stands as a beacon of change with its steadfast commitment to promoting literacy and education through its “Book Matters: Gift A Book, Gift A Future” campaign.

Since its inception in November 2022, the campaign has embodied the belief that every book matters. It encourages shoppers to participate actively in the sustainable circulation of books by donating new or preloved books at the mall’s 1RECYCLING CENTRE. These books, rich with knowledge and imagination, are then distributed to underprivileged families, schools, libraries, and learning centers, spreading the joy of reading far and wide.

Building upon the success of previous years, 1 Utama proudly announces its partnership with The Budimas Charitable Foundation for the year 2024. This collaboration reflects the mall’s ongoing commitment to expanding the reach and impact of the Book Matters initiative. By joining forces with Budimas, 1 Utama aims to benefit an additional 10,000 individuals in need of literary resources and educational support.

In 2023 alone, 1 Utama’s Book Matters campaign facilitated the donation of 35,958 books, reaching over 150,000 individuals across various communities. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the collective efforts of the mall, its shoppers, and its NGO partners, such as Books for A Better World.

Through the collective efforts of the public, 1 Utama, and Budimas, the Book Matters initiative serves as a catalyst for change, fostering a culture of reading, learning, and sustainability. As books continue to travel from hand to hand, heart to heart, their impact resonates deeply, enriching the lives of many and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

As 1 Utama continues to champion the cause of literacy and education through its Book Matters campaign, shoppers are encouraged to actively participate and contribute to this noble endeavor. Every book donated is a gift of knowledge and opportunity, and the mall remains steadfast in its commitment to collect as many books as possible, knowing that each one has the potential to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
