Malaysia’s culinary scene has never been more alive, and the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026proves it. Now in its fourth edition, the guide spotlights 151 distinguished establishments, ranging from humble street stalls to world-class fine dining, capturing the rich diversity, creativity, and cultural depth of Malaysian cuisine.

This year, two restaurants have been promoted to One MICHELIN Star, while 58 Bib Gourmand and 84 MICHELIN Selected venues showcase the country’s culinary ingenuity, reflecting a landscape where tradition and innovation coexist beautifully.
Chef Darren Teoh’s Dewakan once again claims its Two MICHELIN Stars, marking three consecutive years at the summit of Malaysia’s fine dining scene. Famed for its bold use of indigenous ingredients and inventive reinterpretation of Malaysian flavours, Dewakan continues to inspire as both a culinary and cultural landmark.
This year, Dewakan also joins the MICHELIN Green Star community, recognising restaurants with a committed vision for sustainable and forward-thinking gastronomy. It’s not just a restaurant—it’s a movement, fostering dialogue, innovation, and collaboration across the culinary world.

Excitingly, two restaurants have been promoted to One MICHELIN Star:
Akar, led by Chef Aidan Low, reimagines European classics through Japanese, French, and Malaysian influences, creating layered, elegant dishes that marry heritage with innovation.

Terra Dining, under Chef Yu Cheng Chong, earns its first star for a precise, ingredient-driven approach to contemporary Malaysian cuisine, where every flavour is thoughtfully composed.

Alongside Akar and Terra, other One MICHELIN Star restaurants include Beta, Chim by Chef Noom, DC. by Darren Chin, Molina, Au Jardin, and Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery.

The guide also celebrates exceptional individuals whose talent and dedication elevate Malaysia’s dining scene:
Young Chef Award: Chef Chin Hua Wong of Shu, whose modern take on Chinese diaspora cuisine combines heritage with global experience.

Service Award: Maverick Fung of K, whose intuitive and meticulous hospitality transforms dining into a crafted experience.

Opening of the Year: Bidou, Chef Darren Teoh’s new French concept, paying homage to French “nouvelle cuisine” while highlighting his culinary roots.
The Bib Gourmand distinction highlights affordable excellence, with five new additions this year:
Gulainya and Lama in Kuala Lumpur bring rich Peranakan flavours to the forefront.
Awesome Char Koay Teow, Bee Hwa Cafe, and Sifu in Penang exemplify street food mastery.
Meanwhile, 84 MICHELIN Selected restaurants including 11 newcomers demonstrate creativity, quality, and culinary promise. In Kuala Lumpur, standout new entries include Bidou, Jie, K, Kazu, Kuki, Shu, while Penang welcomes Blacklinen, Du-An, Mémoire, Peninsula House, and Sood by Chef Ton.
Together, these selections illustrate Malaysia’s dynamic food scene, a place where passion, heritage, and innovation meet on every plate. From street bites to gastronomic masterpieces, the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026 celebrates a nation confidently shaping its culinary future.
